The Ixworth Enrichment Provision

We are very ambitious with our curriculum.  Students experience high quality Teaching & Learning in all classes.  However, we do not only focus on the academic performance of our students.   We ensure the 'whole student' is catered for, developing them beyond the classroom following a very similar model to many highly successful Independent Schools.  We have seven main strands to our Enrichment package:

  • Fortnightly Enrichment - 100mins

  • Summer Enrichment Week - the final week of each academic year

  • Clubs, after school activities, revision sessions and fixtures.

  • Educational Trips and Visits

  • Christmas and Easter Enrichment days

  • Music Tuition

  • Student Leadership

Why Enrichment matters...

According to the institute of Student Employers; 

'In 2025, 54% of employers reported that graduates did not meet expectations in self-awareness (up from 43% in 2024 and 35% in 2023), while 46% reported concerns about resilience (up from 37% in 2024 and 30% in 2023). Our Enrichment package values the development of these and other employability skills in order to offer our students the greatest chance of success.  In addition, we offer unique experiences, life skills and opportunities many may not receive elsewhere.  Enrichment is seen as of the utmost importance within the school which has resulted in a fortnightly 100min of lesson time being allocated to its delivery.  It has its own curriculum, designed with the three year Key Stage 3 in mind and offer students over 25 different opportunities and numerous combinations for a bespoke package unique to each individual.  

Enrichment at Ixworth enables 100% of Key Stage 3 students access to the various options, so whether you are a budding professional sports person, a future entrepreneur or the next Prime Minister, there is a package for you!

Summer Enrichment

Each year our extensive Summer Enrichment package offers our students the opportunity to move away from the standard curriculum.  As a school, we believe that the importance of 'out of school' opportunities enhances our student experience, builds strong relationships between staff and students and offers opportunities to develop beyond the classroom.  Our highly popular Summer Enrichment week offers a broad range of opportunities from Expeditions to Borneo & Kenya, overseas cultural trips to France and Italy, visits to places of interest such as Stratford, London and historical landmarks as well as a plethora of in house enrichment activities and trips.

Timetabled Enrichment (KS3)

Enrichment at Ixworth is a significant part of our curriculum provision.  Students have over 20 different options to choose from ranging from physical activities such as 'How to become an Elite sports performer', 'Duke of Edinburgh Award' and the Play to activities such as First Aid, Young Enterprise and Sewing.  There is something for all interests and abilities. 

Enrichment at IHS is built into our Key Stage 3 curriculum overcoming the challenge of being a bus school.  100% of students in Key Stage 3 are able to access our full provision meaning nobody gets left out.  Our model follows an adaptation of many of the Independent Sectors provisions giving us a unique selling point that is enjoyed by all our students.

Christmas/Easter Enrichment

Our Christmas Enrichment entails either a theatre trip for Key Stage 4 while our Key Stage 3 students enjoy a visit from a National Pop-up Panto company.

Our extensive range of lunchtime clubs (Approx. 40), after school Events like the Coffee House, revision sessions and Fixtures are all a major part of life at Ixworth high School.

Music Tuition

Ixworth values the contribution the various Arts, Music and Drama make to students lives as well as the possible career avenues that are opened as a result of developing these areas.   As a school we try to support a wide range of musical instrument tuition with students learning the Saxophone, Drums, Piano and many other instruments.
